IPM stands for Integrated Pest Management. How to define what is and isn’t IPM is frequently debated within the agricultural community. As a starting point, we offer two definitions that should give you a basic understanding of the IPM philosophy.

1) Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a sustainable approach to managing pests by combining biological, cultural, physical and chemical tools in a way that minimizes economic, health and environmental risks.
From: Anonymous. 1994 Integrated Pest Management Practices on 1991 Fruits and Nuts, RTD Updates: Pest Management, USDA-ERS, 8pp.

2) IPM is a philosophy requiring at least three components – integration, economics and monitoring. The integration of the best set of strategies, tactics and tools to manage pest populations below an economic injury level with minimum adverse effects on society and the environment. From M.E. Whalon (Michigan State University)

We invite you to scout around this web site and discover what IPM means for you.
